How can I attract hummingbirds?

28 February, 2010 (04:35) | how to attract hummingbirds | By: admin

My sons bought me a hummingbird feeder for Mother’s Day and so far I have not had a single hummingbird. Is there something I can do to attract them? Also, I am gone during the day and do not get home until 5:30-6:00 are they more likely to feed earlier in the day or does the time not matter?
I placed the feeder on a shepard’s hook in a flower bed where we have columbines already planted.

You need to give them time, they’ll find it, but sometimes it takes a couple of weeks.

  • How do I attract hummingbirds and butterflies to my garden without spending a fortune?Like any homemade ideas are great! Plant the things they like. Butterflies love zinnias and they are very easy to grow and inexpensive. Hummingbirds like trumpet shaped flowers like moonflowers, scarlet runner beans, and trumpet vines.

Plant flowers and provide shelter and they will come.

They will most likely be gone long before you arrive home. They generally feed early in the day. Just keep the unit filled with fresh nectar and you will probably see one or two on your day off.
